Three Cases of Vesico-Psoas Hitch Procedure for the Replacement of the Injured Lower Ureters

Abstract

Ureteroneocystostomy is the procedure of choice for lower ureteral injuries since it provides the least complication rate and morbidity. However, lower ureteral injuries which cannot be reimplanted without tension require a bladder extension procedure. With the psoas bladder hitch or a psoas bladder hitch combined with a Boari pedicle flap, defects as high as L4-5 can be bridged. The psoas hitch is performed by mobilizing the bladder and securing it to the psoas minor tendon.
Herein we present our experiences of the vesico-psoas hitch procedure for the replacement of the 3 cases of the injured lower ureter with a brief review of the literature.
